Below, you will find links to five Media Advisories covering different aspects of the abortion issue. These Advisories have been prepared by the Pacific Institute for Women's Health and Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health®. Rather than promoting the work of any single organization, however, we have chosen to draw on the expertise and documentation of several leading pro-choice organizations and individuals. Each Advisory contains contact information for interviewees and lists of resources (with electronic links to each document).
Three decades after the January 22, 1973 Supreme Court decision in the case of Roe v. Wade, which established abortion as a constitutionally protected right, abortion remains legal in the U.S. Nevertheless, the right to abortion continues to be hotly contested and many American women are de facto unable to access the services they need.
Internationally, the Roe v. Wade decision made the U.S. a leader on an issue of global importance. Thirty years later, however, U.S. foreign policy on abortion threatens not only women's choice but also their lives. The current Administration's insistence on injecting its domestic anti-abortion agenda into its foreign policy threatens millions of women, while infringing on the right to free speech - a right that Americans cherish regardless of their view on the abortion issue.
