For over 15 years, PIWH has been at the forefront of innovative strategies and programs that support women’s and girls’ access to the full range of reproductive health options.
Yet, in this tough economic climate, we now face serious challenges in obtaining the necessary funding to continue our work. That’s why PIWH needs your support today to help us continue to respond to the unique challenges women face in managing their health and their lives.
Just this past year, PIWH launched one of the first programs of its kind in the U.S. to address the sexual and reproductive health needs of youth. And in a year, our Youth Friendly Pharmacy Initiative has facilitated the training of pharmacists across the state to improve youth access to sexual and reproductive healthcare services, including prevention of unintended pregnancies and sexual transmitted infections.
Despite our efforts, we have limited funding and fewer opportunities to gain financial support for PIWH to achieve its mission.
For example, we know that even with the best efforts, the teenage pregnancy rate is once again on the rise. We also know that women need greater options to obtain contraception. PIWH has been and continues to be at the forefront of both issues. First, we led the first dedicated legislation to make EC available over the counter. And this year we are leading the way, again, by presenting legislation to expand access to hormonal contraception in pharmacy settings.
