How We Work

Our local and international work addresses three themes:

REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE

Strengthening movements to secure and protect reproductive rights and justice. We do this by engaging communities that have largely not been included in the movement to date, for example, young people, communities of color and diverse ethnicities, and organizations in countries that have opposed international efforts to fully recognize reproductive rights. We also focus on increasing all people's access to a full range of reproductive choices, with an emphasis on young people. Areas of particular focus include abortion and emergency contraception.

SEXUAL JUSTICE

Increasing young people's access to quality sexuality and gender education which is comprehensive, honest and respectful and which effectively enables them to protect their health and avoid unintended consequences of sexual activity. In addition, we are exploring ways to increase understanding, acceptance and support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people, particularly youth.

GENDER JUSTICE

Strengthening programs which combine girls' empowerment with reproductive health, sexuality and rights education to ensure that girls have the knowledge, confidence, skills and support systems they need to defend their rights, protect their health, manage their sexuality and reproduction and become advocates for their own well-being.

Our strategies include:

Developing and testing innovative models with partner organizations, and disseminating them broadly to increase the effectiveness of work on our strategic issues;

Sharing technical and organizational expertise to strengthen the programs and capacity of our partner organizations;

Forming partnerships and working in coalitions to further collective goals, leverage our resources and increase the impact of our work.
